Ang EP-BPGA series energy-saving planetary gearbox solves a specific installation problem: how to integrate a gear reducer into a machine design without adding a separate mounting base, a shaft coupling, and an alignment procedure to the bill of materials and the assembly process. The A-type input flange of EP-BPGA is designed to mate directly with an IEC standard B5 motor face flange — the gearbox hangs from the motor, the motor shaft inserts directly into the gearbox input bore, and the assembly is complete. No coupling housing, no base plate, no laser alignment.

Internally, EP-BPGA is identical to the EP-BPG series: the same gear train, the same backlash specification (<6 arcmin for frames 080–160, <8 arcmin for frames 040–060), the same gear ratios, and the same energy-saving design that delivers >95% single-stage efficiency. The A-type flange is the only structural difference — it changes how the gearbox mounts, not what it does mechanically. This means all the energy-saving benefits, sealed maintenance-free lubrication, and compact planetary torque density of the EP-BPG series are available in a motor-mounted form factor.

What Changes When You Use A-Type Flange

1. The Motor Becomes the Gearbox Support Structure

In a standard base-mounted gearbox installation, the machine frame carries both the motor and gearbox weight through separate mounting points. With the A-type flange of EP-BPGA, the gearbox is bolted directly to the motor face and the motor supports the gearbox — the assembly is a single mechanical unit. The machine frame only needs to support the motor, which it already does. This eliminates the separate gearbox mounting structure, reducing both machine frame material and assembly time.

2. No Shaft Coupling and No Alignment Procedure

Standard base-mounted motor-gearbox combinations require a flexible shaft coupling between motor output shaft and gearbox input shaft, and a laser or dial indicator alignment procedure to centre the two shaft axes within acceptable misalignment limits. EP-BPGA eliminates both: the motor shaft inserts directly into the gearbox input bore (splined or keyed), centred by the B5 flange pilot diameter. Alignment is defined by the machined flange geometry, not by the installation team. This reduces installation time per unit and eliminates alignment-related vibration failures.

3. Shorter Overall Drive Train Length

A standard base-mounted arrangement requires axial space for the coupling housing (typically 60–150 mm) between the motor face and gearbox input face. The A-type flange bolts the gearbox directly to the motor face with no axial gap — removing 60–150 mm from the drive train length. In equipment where the combined motor-gearbox assembly must fit within a defined axial envelope — a mixer head, a pump set, a hoist mechanism — this length reduction can be the difference between a design that fits the space requirement and one that does not.

IEC B5 Flange — The Standard That Makes Motor-Mounted Gearboxes Practical

IEC 60072 (EN 50347) standardises the B5 flange as a circular mounting face on the motor non-drive end or drive end with a defined pilot diameter, bolt-circle diameter, and bolt size for each motor frame size. A gearbox with an A-type input flange is designed to this same B5 geometry — when the gearbox A-flange mates with the motor B5 face, the pilot diameter centres the shaft axes to within 0.1–0.2 mm total indicated runout, and the bolts clamp the faces together. No shimming, no dial gauge measurement, no laser alignment target.
