Pre-Installation Inspection

Verify the model code: frame size (40–160), gear ratio (3:1–512:1), input flange square size Q3. Confirm the output shaft diameter D4 matches your coupling bore. Check that Q3 matches the servo motor front face dimension. Do not perform any rework on the factory-ground output shaft surface — h7 tolerance is verified at manufacture.

Motor Coupling — Clamping Input (S-type)

Insert the servo motor shaft fully into the gearbox input bore until the motor face contacts the input flange squarely. Tighten the integral locking screws evenly in a cross pattern to the specified torque. The clamping input works with or without a motor shaft keyway — no fit matching required. For S1 locking-ring type, compress the ring uniformly using the provided tightening tool.

Mounting to Machine Frame

Align the gearbox spigot D6 with the machine bore for a close-running fit. Install the 4×G2 mounting screws and torque evenly. Ensure mounting surface flatness is within 0.02 mm to avoid bearing preload stress. The central G3 screw hole provides additional axial retention for pull-out resistance where required by the application.

Output Shaft Connection

Connect the load via a rigid or semi-rigid coupling onto the h7 output shaft D4. Install the key (width B1) with a sliding fit — do not hammer. For press-fit coupling hubs, warm the hub to 80–100°C before pressing to avoid bearing overload. Mount the driven component as close to the output bearing as possible to minimise the bending moment arm.

Confirm applied radial load does not exceed the max radial force at shaft centre (L/2) — e.g. 900 N for EP-ZDE-80. Axial thrust must remain below max axial force. For combined radial + axial loads, calculate equivalent bearing load: Fe = √(Fr² + Fa²) and verify Fe ≤ rated radial force. Cantilevered loads at the shaft end generate higher effective bearing loads than the tabulated L/2 values.

No-Load Run-In & Backlash Verification

Run at no-load for 30 minutes at ≤50% rated input speed. Monitor for unusual vibration or noise. Confirm housing temperature does not exceed ambient +90°C. EP-ZDF Series — Square Flange Output

Choose EP-ZDF when the gearbox is bolted to a bracket or plate surface rather than inserted into a round bore. Identical backlash, efficiency, IP54 sealing, and lifetime lubrication to EP-ZDE.

EP-ZDWE Series — Right-Angle Input, Round Flange

Right-angle bevel input with round output flange — the servo motor is perpendicular to the output shaft, saving 30–50% of axial installation depth. Use EP-ZDWE when machine tool headstock depth or robot arm cross-section prevents inline motor placement. Available in 60–160 mm frames with the same lifetime lubrication and IP54 sealing.

EP-ZDS Series — High Stiffness, Heavy Load

When EP-ZDE-160 at 800 N·m is not sufficient — EP-ZDS delivers up to 1,800 N·m (190-frame) with IP65 protection, torsional stiffness up to 130 N·m/arcmin, and 28,000 N maximum axial force. Specify EP-ZDS for heavy robot joints, large CNC pallet changers, and high-force servo press applications in Korean tier-1 automotive and heavy industry facilities.

Select the frame size from the rated output torque: calculate required output torque = load torque × service factor (1.5–2.0 for dynamic or shock loads). The housing has no grease nipple, drain port, or oil fill port — do not attempt to add lubricant.
